You are invited to a panel discussion at 6pm on Tuesday, June 16, 2015, by the Friends of St. Mary’s, in the church hall downstairs at St Charles Church in Pittsfield.
The panel discussion will feature the nonprofit President Robert Jaeger, from Partners for Sacred Places and architectural student Tom Cracolici from Wentworth Institute of Technology. The panel discussion will focus on repurposing options for the former Catholic Church, as well as generating ideas for a vibrant, re-purposed Saint Mary’s.
Partners for Sacred Places, founded in 1989, is the only national, non-sectarian, nonprofit organization focused on building the capacity of congregations of historic sacred places to better serve their communities as anchor institutions, nurturing transformation, and shaping vibrant, creative communities. Partners has worked with Sally and Fred Harris, the owners of the newly, multi-functional repurposed Saint James Place, in Great Barrington, Mass.
The Friends of Saint Mary’s ad hoc committee announced their formation last November and exists with the goal of assisting potential inhabitants with options on how to inhabit and preserve the building. The group’s mission is to identify and support thoughtful building reuse plans, with an emphasis on projects that build community and enhance the aesthetics of the property and the surrounding Morningside neighborhood.
In having the President of Partners come speak, we hope to generate new ideas and energy for the former church’s re-purposing.
